Protect Your A/C From Copper Thieves Part 1

Protect Your A/C From Copper Thieves Part 1
Copper thefts are taking place all over the United States and are being committed by individuals and organized groups who want a quick profit from a variety of easy targets, one of which is your air conditioner unit. On average there is at least one A/C unit stolen every day in the United States. You do not want this to be you, so you need to protect your A/C unit with a guard or cage from Midstate!

Why Copper?

Copper thieves are targeting anywhere and everywhere they can find copper. They are hitting electrical sub-stations, cellular towers, telephone land lines, railroads, water wells, construction sites and air conditioner units at foreclosed or vacant houses as well as houses that may appear vacant, for instance a house in which the family is on an extended vacation. Most thieves are not stupid. They could stakeout your house for days before trying to steal the copper out of your air conditioner.

But why copper? According to a study by the FBI, the demand for copper from other nations is creating a strong international copper trade. Copper thieves are taking advantage of this demand and the ensuing price surge by stealing the copper and selling it for big profits to recyclers across the United States. As the demand grows and the supply tightens around the world, the market for illicit copper will probably increase.

Money Out In The Open

No one in their right mind would leave thousands of dollars outside their home in a box, but that is exactly what you are doing if you leave your air conditioner unit unprotected outside your home or office. It's true that many homes have the air conditioner unit on the side of the house, making it visible to everyone, which makes it more difficult for thieves to have access to the unit. But what if you unit is hidden behind the house or you live in a rural area where your nearest neighbor is hundreds of yards away? This could give thieves a lot of cover to break open your A/C unit and steal all the copper out of it. But even if your unit is on the side of your house, thieves are smart. It would not be uncommon for a thief to use a repair truck to disguise their actual purpose. Most people may not even pay attention to a couple guys "working on the A/C" if a repair truck is in the driveway.

Don't be let another day go by with an unprotected air conditioner. Midstate has been making quality products to help protect your property for more than 35 years. It may not seem very important right now, but one encounter with some copper thieves could cost thousands of dollars to repair or replace.
