The powder used in the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which electrostatically sprayed onto the surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electronically grounded surfaces until the powder is heated and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven.

Benefits of Powder Coating

Cost Effective—The greatest benefit of powder coating has to do with efficiency and overspray. The average transfer efficiency of powder coating is 60-70%. You may think this is not the best, but any over spray is collected and reused, meaning there is little to no waste. When compared to other coating methods such as conventional paint, the transfer efficiency is only 30-35%. Also, about 50% of paint evaporates without any means of reusing the over spray. The base product for powder coating is also cheaper than conventional paint.
